Today is definitely the day!!! I will be getting my first relaxer in four years today and needless to say I am extremely anxious! This morning I heavily conditioned my fro with Silk Elements’ Mixed Silk Leave-In Conditioner. I just sectioned off parts of my hair and placed a generous amount of the conditioner on my hair. I was extremely cautious not to use a comb or scratch my scalp because one thing that I defiantly can remember from getting a relaxer is that when the scalp is irritated it BURNS!!!!!! I am extremely luck today because on humid days here in Alabama my hair doesn’t stand a chance. It doesn’t matter how much moisturizer I place in my head it sucks it up like a Slurpee on a hot August day. But when it rains like today the moister holds very well in my hair. I’m going to post some before pictures and after pictures when it’s done maybe I’ll even post a video. But just stay posted!!!
Today marks the beginning of my hair journey. I have been Natural for about four years now and tomorrow I will be getting my first Relaxer. I know a lot of people may think that’s completely backwards but it’s not. I noticed that Hair is therapy to women. It’s an extension of our inner self. When I first went Natural it was in July of 2007. I was in a dark place in my life and everything that you could think about was out of control. My only way of controlling the madness was to take control of my hair. To some of you this might sound ridiculous but to others it sounds like Hair-apy (see Emotional section). So today I will spend my last full day with my Afro-centric Fro! J Don’t worry I will take pictures & post them soon. Tonight I plan on doing a hot oil treatment and deep conditioner before the big day. I will twist my hair into to two strand twist and allow to air dry. I will let you know how it goes! Wish me luck!!!
